--------------------------------------------------------
I wish I was on yonder hill
'Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill
Till every tear would turn a mill

I'll sell my rock, I'll sell my reel
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel

Chorus
Siuil, siuil, siuil a run
Siuil go sochair agus siuil go ciuin
Siuil go doras agus ealeaigh liom
Is go dte tu mo mhuirnin slan

I'll dye my petticoats, I'll dye them red
And 'round the world I'll beg my bread
Until my parents shall wish me dead

I wish, I wish, I wish in vein
I wish I had my heart again
And then ye think I'd not complain

Behind The Song / Traditional arrangement by Marc Armstrong
After the Treaty of Limerick in 1691, Irish soldiers departed for the armies of France and Spain. They were called “The Wild Geese” but they never returned to Ireland. In this song a girl bids a sad farewell to her soldier sweetheart who is sailing away.
